Nurse Aide Training Program
Frequently Asked Questions

1. How often is the training program offered?
The next Nurse Aide Training program is scheduled to be held in 2011. It is typically offered one to two times annually.

2. How long does the training program last?
The program consists of 120 hours of instruction. It runs three days a week for six weeks (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and some Saturdays).

This includes classroom, hands-on practice, lab and clinical hours. Hours are divided over a six-week period. A course calendar is given to students upon acceptance to the program.

3. What are "lab hours"?
All patient care skills are practiced in a lab-like setting (lab hours) until students demonstrate competence and confidence with each skill. Only then are the skills practiced in a clinical setting (clinical hours).

4. What are "clinical hours"?
Clinical hours are scheduled to provide training in direct resident care under supervision of a qualified nurse instructor.

5. What is the cost?
Bethlen Communities assumes all costs associated with the program. In addition, students are paid minimum wage during training hours.

Students are provided with all materials needed to learn both theory and skills.

6. What do I wear?
Students are provided with a dress code during orientation but, in general, are required to wear uniform scrubs during clinical experience.

These scrubs must be any shade of plain brown, and are available at online and at retail stores. Uniform cost is the student's responsibility.

7. Will I have a job at Bethlen Home when I'm done with the program?
This program prepares a student to work as a Nurse Aide anywhere in the state of Pennsylvania.

Completion of this state-approved Nurse Aide Training Program with a passing grade qualifies the student to sit for the state NA registry exam.

Staffing needs at Bethlen Home vary; however, if jobs are available when the course is complete, qualified candidates may bid on those jobs.
